Welcome to Headline News

Open source java

This one has been due for a long time. When I first heard this news, I doubted it. When it became official after JavaOne 2006, I guessed they would make it in 2007 but not this fast. We'll get to see Java C and Hotspot VM by October, 2006; rest of JDK in early 2007. yeah! wait there is a catch: "The company is still considering the licence under which it will release the technology"

what will be the effects? which license would it be? Read what Geir Magnusson of Apache thinks about this. Also the discussions in that post are interesting.

Oracle and i-flex

Oh dear! I hoped i-flex would become a mega-banking software company. The way I see it, Oracle is gonna swallow it and make the whole company and its amazing product one of many oracle solutions. If you are wondering "what's the big deal about i-flex?", you are missing a big picture. i-flex's Flexcube is the #1 banking product in over 100+ countries. It is also one of the best product development companies in India.

GoogleFi

72,000 residents and $1 million. Google says this is just a demo of their power :-) No - they will not provide wifi for entire US. On a similar note, project Green wifi, backed by all these big guns, is working on wifi in developing nations. Let's see how long does it take to go live.
